Why PaperPress is different

Every other "free PDF converter" works the same way: you upload your document to their server, software converts it there, and you download the result — along with whatever their privacy policy lets them keep. PaperPress inverts that model. Your browser already contains a professional document layout engine, a PDF renderer, and enough computing power for OCR — so we run everything locally. Your contracts, assignments, IDs, and medical records are processed on your own device and never travel anywhere.

PaperPress is built by Venom X Technology, a product studio in Sri Lanka, and is one of very few tools anywhere offering client-side OCR in Tamil (தமிழ்) and Sinhala (සිංහල) alongside English — useful for digitising local documents, certificates, and forms without privacy concerns.

Questions people actually ask

Is this really free? What's the catch?

Completely free — no signup, no file limits, no watermark stamped on your output. There's no catch because there's no server bill: your own browser does all the work.

Where do my files go?

Nowhere. Every conversion runs in JavaScript inside your browser tab. Close the tab and everything is gone. Safe for contracts, ID documents, and anything else you'd rather not hand to a random server.

Can it read scanned PDFs and photos?

Yes — the OCR tool recognizes printed text in English, Tamil (தமிழ்), and Sinhala (සිංහල) using Tesseract. The first run downloads the language model (cached afterwards), then recognition happens locally.

Will PDF → Word keep my exact layout?

It recovers the text and paragraph structure into a clean, fully editable .docx. Pixel-perfect layout recovery is impossible for any converter — a PDF stores positioned characters, not document structure.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes — all tools work on modern mobile browsers including Chrome for Android and Safari on iOS. Larger files may be slower depending on your device's available memory.

Is there a file size or page limit?

No enforced limit. The practical ceiling is your device's available RAM, since everything runs locally. Most devices handle PDFs up to several hundred pages without issue.
